The amount of Dads that cried when they got back together is still an unknown figure

With big groups like this we’ve got around 4 / 5 plays to do in 5 days AKA 35 hours of camp AKA 16 hours of rehearsal time

BUT we still need time to create a chorus performance for the parents on Friday. We wanna see your arms up in the air waving to this tune!!

Introduction to miming and ad lib expression:

Late worker.

A great game to help kids build confidence to improvise their characters expressions in the end of week play when they are on stage and not talking.

(IE you don’t have to tell students how to act all the time when they are standing and waiting for their line, they come up with and implement acting ideas - without speaking - themselves during scenes!)

By the way - if you’re still playing this a game as an adult with your boss, you need a big rethink of your career goals 😚

How to play:

1️⃣choose a boss and late worker

2️⃣ Choose where you are working (be aspirational! Don’t choose flipping burgers!!)

3️⃣ Choose a believable / funny excuse

4️⃣ Mime the excuse to the paste workers (the boss can fire you if you make noise and can’t give them a good excuse for talking!)

5️⃣ Late workers have 4-5 minutes to guess the excuse. You’ll get hired or fired when time is up.

6️⃣Change your work environment, boss, late worker and Repeat!

This game is fun for 3-4 rounds / 20 minutes (until it’s boring or you need to go rehearse) with ages 8+

Would you have got it correct? 🤔 The truth is, many actors who work in film forget the basics of the stage! 🎪

HOW TO PLAY:

This fun elimination game helps students learn all 9 areas of the stage.

📖Teach the students the basics of the stage, encouraging them to guess and use their initiative and logical thought process to understand which is stage Right, Left, Upstage, Downstage and Centre Stage 💡

Then instruct them that the final person to fast walk to an area of the stage which the tutor shouts, the final person to arrive is eliminated! 🏃‍♂️😰

✅ After a 8 or so eliminations, Instructions such as “Downstage Centre” can be shouted. Without the students ever having heard this term or this specific space explained to them.

✅ After eagerly playing for a few minutes with just the 5 first areas of the stage outlined above, they will naturally use their initiative to work out where spaces such as Upstage Right will be

To be a good listener, you must develop empathy. If you’re going to play a variety of characters, you must develop empathy within you so you’re able to understand a persons motives and ideals from an emotional perspective.

Training to be a good actor is not left within the drama studio. You can develop #compassion and #empathy and understand others through listening to who they are by the words they say.

If we can’t listen to the underlying messages of what someone is trying to convey to us in real life, how are we going to be able to understand a character when listening to what they are trying to tell us and their peers on the page?

It’s more than words, it’s about understanding motive and picking up on subtly communicated hints

Direct communicators - like me- are often times the worst listeners as they aren’t in tune with others subtly conversational hints.

Learn to be fully present within a conversation and you will learn far more about a person. When you get it, you get it.
